The Seneca Nation injects nearly $2 billion annually into the economy of Western New York, as indicated by a recent independent economic impact assessment presented by Nation leaders during a gathering with state and local authorities.

The results, outlined in a report from Meister Economic Consulting, revealed that the Nation and its commercial ventures generate $1.9 billion in economic output, support 8,014 full-time equivalent positions, and produce $542.7 million in wages throughout the Western New York region.

“The ongoing presence and leadership of the Seneca Nation in Western New York significantly energize the local economy,” stated Seneca Nation President J. Conrad Seneca. “In addition, we nurture and sustain the livelihoods of thousands of individuals and families who, like us, consider this area their home.”

The report designates the Seneca Nation as the 12th largest employer in Western New York, offering 4,623 direct positions, including both full-time and part-time jobs, through its governmental and commercial operations. The Nation’s procurement from local suppliers also bolsters thousands of additional jobs.

While recognized primarily for its three casinos—Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino, Seneca Allegany Resort & Casino, and Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino—the Nation manages 34 enterprises across various sectors, including entertainment, banking, IT, retail, and professional sports.

“Today’s analysis reaffirms what we already understand: the Seneca Nation fosters job creation and stimulates economic growth—all without relying on taxpayer funds or subsidies,” affirmed Odie Porter, Councilor of the Seneca Nation. “Our mission is straightforward—continue to advance our future for Senecas and all of Western New York, without interference from external governmental bodies. We are not outsiders.”

“We don’t need incentives to invest here,” he added. “This is our home, and we are here to stay. We strive to enhance it.”

The analysis evaluated the Nation’s economic impact across a 16-county area spanning over 11,400 square miles, which encompasses much of the Nation’s historical territories.

Earlier this year, the Nation solidified its investment in Rochester by acquiring the National Lacrosse League’s Rochester Knighthawks, ensuring the team’s continued presence in the city.

“The Seneca Nation has played a pivotal role in propelling the Western New York economy forward in ways that few can replicate,” stated the president. “With every action we take and investment we make, the advantages we provide to our people are amplified, and our economic influence in Western New York strengthens.”

The gathering welcomed participation from a variety of federal, state, and local officials, including representatives from the offices of U.S. Representatives Timothy M. Kennedy and Claudia Tenney, New York State Senator George Borello, and State Assemblyman Angelo Morinello. Staff from Senate Minority Leader Robert Ortt, Senators April Baskin and Sean Ryan, and Assemblymembers Crystal Peoples-Stokes and Karen McMahon also attended.

Local leaders involved included Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz, Chautauqua County Executive P.J. Wendel, Niagara Falls Mayor Robert Restaino, Salamanca Mayor Sandy Magiera, Erie County Legislator Lawrence Dupre, and Buffalo Common Councilmember Mitch Nowakowski.
