If you’re curious about the absence of the holiday ice rink announcement from the Cosmopolitan, it turns out it has — appeared on an auction platform.

This revelation, initially reported by the “Five Hundy by Midnight” podcast, seems to mark the conclusion of this beloved holiday custom.
Holiday Ice Rink Discontinued
Since its inception in 2011, the Cosmopolitan has transformed its 4,200 square-foot rooftop pool on the fourth floor of the Boulevard Tower into a winter wonderland, featuring real ice, cozy fire pits, snow flurries, and festive cocktails every holiday season.
Traditionally, the announcement for its launch happens between October 25 and November 5, with the rink typically opening around Thanksgiving.

However, this year, the rink, along with all its furnishings and skates, is set to be auctioned off at biddergy.com.
The auction includes not only the rink walls but also a complete temporary plumbing system for the antifreeze that creates the ice, and even a Zamboni! (According to biddergy.com, the Zamboni “operates but requires maintenance.”)
The auction listing indicates that the entire setup is in a Las Vegas warehouse and will require “approximately 5 semi-trailers for transportation.”
In the following year of its launch, the Fontainebleau Las Vegas emulated the Cosmopolitan by installing its own 7,500-square-foot Oasis Ice Rink over its third-floor pool deck.
As it stands, the Fontainebleau’s ice rink will be the sole seasonal offering available to visitors on the Las Vegas Strip this year.
Furthermore, a note to Wynn and Resorts World: if you’re considering establishing a cost-effective ice rink next holiday season, please be aware that the auction stipulates that the “system cannot be sold or utilized within Clark County, NV.” (A clever move by MGM!)
Bidding will commence at $5,000 at 5 a.m. PT on November 24 at biddergy.com.
Here’s the comprehensive inventory list:
- Ice rink walls for 115’ x 48’ rink (spare parts included)
- 10 rolling racks for ice skates (holds approximately 100 pairs per rack in various sizes)
- 1 additional pallet of unracked skates
- 1 skate sharpener
- 5 pallets of plastic reindeer and seals to assist beginner skaters
- 1 pallet of insulation padding
- 5 glycol tanks and 1 large glycol tank
- 2 rolling tool crates with chiller plumbing fasteners and fittings
- 8 pallets of rubber mats in various sizes for safe walking while wearing skates (estimated 400+ mats)
- 1 Zamboni, operational but in need of maintenance
- 2 storage cubbies for shoes
- 4 pallets of benches (total of 18)
- 4 pallets of stacked chairs (approx. 16 chairs per pallet)
- 8 pallets of assorted outdoor furniture
- 3 pallets of chalet-style Adirondack chairs
MGM Resorts has yet to respond to Casino.org’s inquiries regarding the rationale behind the rink’s sale and whether there are alternative plans for the space this winter.
