A federal grand jury has formally charged a man for allegedly assaulting TSA personnel and attempting to stab law enforcement officers at Harry Reid International Airport. Jhon Raul Vizcaino Ramirez, aged 30, faces multiple federal charges including two counts of obstructing security screening personnel, two counts of assaulting those aiding law enforcement, and one charge of unlawfully entering a restricted airport area.

The event took place in a TSA screening area within Terminal 1 on November 3, as detailed in court documents reviewed by the Las Vegas Review-Journal and KLAS-TV/Las Vegas.

Wearing a bandana that covered half his face, Vizcaino Ramirez allegedly attempted to board a flight to Rochester, New York, with a ticket issued in a woman’s name. This raised the suspicions of a TSA officer, who promptly requested additional assistance.

Two TSA officers arrived at the scene. One, serving as a Spanish interpreter, asked for identity verification. Vizcaino Ramirez produced a passport sealed in plastic from his pocket but refused to surrender it. Prosecutors claim he then struck the officer’s head, knocking their glasses off.

Following this altercation, the officer summoned Las Vegas police, who routinely monitor the airport. Upon their arrival, Vizcaino Ramirez allegedly resisted arrest aggressively, kicking one officer in the head and arm and seizing a pen from one of the officers, attempting to stab them.

He was ultimately restrained and placed in handcuffs; however, one officer needed medical treatment for sustained injuries.

During a federal court session on November 24, Judge Elayna Youchah remanded Vizcaino Ramirez without bail at the Clark County Detention Center.

His arraignment is set for December 12.
