Authorities confirm that the shooting was deliberate. The assailant approached an individual at the food court and opened fire, wounding a second bystander with a grazing shot.
The casino and the entirety of MGM National Harbor are accessible. Law enforcement described the casino area as extensive, indicating no need for closure as the crime scene is contained within the National Market.
According to police reports, the shooter left the premises using a vehicle.
“The casino environment is secure, and the Harbor is safe,” stated Prince George’s County Police Chief George Nader.
UPDATE 1:35 PM EST:
Authorities suspect that the shooting was not random but specifically targeted. Ongoing investigations are actively seeking the suspect, who allegedly escaped the area. No motive has been established, and details about the shooter’s identity remain undisclosed.
Emergency responders are attending to an active situation at MGM National Harbor, with preliminary reports indicating at least two individuals have been shot.

The official social media account for the Prince George’s County Police Department announced an ongoing investigation into the shooting at MGM Resorts International’s casino.
“Detectives and police officers are currently on-site addressing the shooting incident at MGM National Harbor. We will release verified information as it becomes available,” posted the police department’s social account.
Members of the press have been instructed to use designated parking areas, with no specified time for a press briefing confirmed yet.
Incident Location: Food Court
Preliminary accounts indicated that the shooting took place near the National Market food court within the resort. Gunfire was reported at approximately 11:55 AM local time on Wednesday.
The food court is situated on the main floor of the casino beside the BetMGM Sportsbook. Upon the arrival of police shortly after the incident, one shooting victim was found and sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
A second victim was also reported to be injured but is anticipated to make a full recovery.
MGM National Harbor is located in Oxon Hill, Maryland, just across the Potomac River from the capital. Washington, D.C., made headlines during the recent Thanksgiving holidays when an Afghan national opened fire on two National Guard members from West Virginia.
Tragically, one of the guardsmen, 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom, lost her life, while 24-year-old Andrew Wolfe remains in critical but stable condition, reportedly showing “positive signs” of recovery, according to West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey.
Historically, Prince George’s County has faced significant crime challenges, though 2025 has seen notable improvements in violent crime and carjackings. Nonetheless, crime rates remain a concern in certain neighborhoods within PGC near the Capital Beltway, including Oxon Hill.
