According to a social media announcement from Elon Musk’s Boring Company, limited airport drop-offs are now operational through the Vegas Loop. This initiative signifies the first occurrence of this underground transport system, which utilizes small tunnels for Teslas to bypass street congestion, being allowed to operate on airport premises.

A December 30 update from the company indicated that they are “still in the early phases of the program,” with plans to offer a limited number of rides each day.

At present, airport trips are available exclusively from the Resorts World and Westgate stations. For a fare of $12 — approximately a third of the cost of traditional rideshare or taxi services — passengers are taken via operational sections of the Vegas Loop before transitioning to surface routes leading to terminals 1 or 3. These services are expected to continue until the completion of the dual tunnels connecting the Vegas Loop to the airport, which is projected for Q1 this year.

Drop-offs occur daily at the departures curb from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. However, airport pickups will not commence until the installation of transponders that identify the vehicles for airport security is complete, although no timeline for this installation has been shared. (Pickups will be conducted in the limousine and shuttle zones outside the Zero levels of Terminals 1 and 3.)

In late 2025, regulators authorized these combined tunnel/surface routes, with the Nevada Transportation Authority stipulating that surface travel must not exceed four miles per trip while maintaining tunnel mileage as part of the journey.

Vision for Tunnels

Once the 2.25-mile Airport Connector is finalized, airport transportation will predominantly take place underground. This extension will link to the University Center Loop, currently being constructed under Paradise Road, which will introduce stations at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, the Howard Hughes Center, UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Center, and the Sphere.

To date, the Vegas Loop features more than 10 miles of tunnels excavated, with approximately 4 miles currently in operation — linking stations at Encore, Resorts World, Westgate, and the Las Vegas Convention Center. Certain routes, like the one from Encore to Westgate, have utilized autonomous Teslas since October, although all vehicles presently have a human “safety driver” on board.

The Boring Company’s long-term vision aims to interconnect the entire tourism corridor — stretching from Allegiant Stadium in the south to downtown Las Vegas in the north — via a 68-mile underground network consisting of 104 Vegas Loop stations already sanctioned by Clark County and the City of Las Vegas.
