In the early hours of Monday, a 25-year-old man was assaulted and robbed at the temporary Bally’s Chicago casino, just days before it is set to host a major New Year’s Eve celebration.

As reported by Chicago police and covered by multiple local media sources, the incident took place around 2 a.m., when two unidentified assailants attacked the victim in a casino restroom, stealing his possessions before escaping.
Although the victim suffered injuries, he did not require hospitalization. It remains unclear whether he was a guest or an employee of the casino.
Currently, police have not confirmed any arrests or identified any suspects.
Bally’s released a statement acknowledging the incident, expressing their awareness of the security-related issue and confirming their cooperation with both the Chicago police and state regulatory bodies.
The casino reiterated its dedication to ensuring the “safety and well-being of guests, employees, and the local community” as its primary concern and assured ongoing efforts to uphold a secure environment.
Timing of the Incident
This robbery incident occurs at a crucial moment for the casino, which is gearing up for a circus-themed New Year’s Eve celebration slated to run from New Year’s Eve until 3 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
The anticipated celebration is expected to attract a significant crowd to the temporary casino, which opened in September 2023 as the city’s first full casino, with Bally’s working towards developing a $1.7 billion permanent complex at the previous Tribune Publishing site.
In addition, recent police reports have indicated multiple robbery incidents in the vicinity this month. One case involved a victim who was robbed at gunpoint in a nearby parking garage, while another instance reported a couple being held at gunpoint just steps away from the casino entrance.
Authorities have not confirmed whether these incidents are related, and Bally’s has yet to comment on potential enhancements to security ahead of the New Year’s festivities.
The temporary Bally’s location attracts thousands of visitors weekly and operates around the clock, prompting ongoing security discussions among both casino management and city officials. While the investigation into Monday’s attack is ongoing, no suspect descriptions have been released, and none of the stolen items have been recovered. Additional information was not immediately available.
