Authorities in Toronto have charged a 39-year-old professional poker player with sexual assault and several drug-related crimes after a thorough investigation into a reported incident in the city’s entertainment district.

Daniel Kwon, from Toronto, was arrested and is facing charges including forcible confinement, sexual assault, and sexual assault with choking. The police have also charged him with three counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for trafficking, possession of a Schedule III substance for trafficking, and possession of proceeds of crime exceeding $5,000.
Possible Additional Victims?
The inquiry commenced after law enforcement responded to a report of sexual assault on January 15 near Wellington Street West and Simcoe Street. Authorities claim that the victim encountered Kwon at an event he hosted, where the alleged assault took place.
On January 19, police executed a search warrant at Kwon’s residence and subsequently arrested him. He was set to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on January 19, according to police records.
Investigators suspect there might be more victims and have published an image of Kwon, urging anyone with relevant information to reach out to the police.
‘Action Dan’
Kwon is recognized in poker communities by his moniker, “Action Dan,” and has participated in numerous high-stakes, livestreamed cash games that have garnered substantial online followings.
Highroll Poker, which monitors results from streamed cash-game sessions, labels Kwon as a Toronto-based entrepreneur and poker player who has competed in programs such as Hustler Casino Live, Bally Live Poker, and Poker at The Lodge.
As per PokerNews, Kwon made headlines after participating in Hustler Casino Live’s “Million Dollar Game” in May 2024, which prominently featured seven-figure buy-ins. Reports indicated he experienced significant losses, totalling $404,000 in one session and over $1,004,000 in another, totaling losses of $1.408 million.
While Kwon’s reputation is mainly associated with streamed cash games, his accomplishments in live tournaments are considerably less significant. The Hendon Mob database records his total live earnings at $23,412, with his largest live cash being $9,132.
At this time, police have not provided additional details regarding the alleged assault, and no court records concerning the allegations were specified in their release.
Toronto police request that anyone possessing information contact investigators or reach out to Crime Stoppers anonymously.
