San Jose police executed a raid on an illegal gambling establishment on Wednesday, concluding a thorough investigation that started in November 2025, when an officer first noticed irregular activity in a warehouse on the 1700 block of Monterey Road.
During the operation, several individuals were detained, supported by a large contingent from the San Jose Police Department along with specialized units such as the Mobile Emergency Response Group and Equipment (MERGE) team, VCET, METRO, Street Crimes, and Vice personnel.
Ultimately, two arrests were made: one for managing the illegal gambling site, and a second for an unrelated outstanding warrant. No further suspects were charged with gambling-related offenses at this time.
In their search of the warehouse, officers recovered gambling devices, one firearm, and two motorbikes, one of which had been reported stolen by a neighbor several years ago.
“Such illicit operations often invite violence, fraud, and organized crime, posing risks to nearby communities,” the San Jose Police Department stated via social media. “Commendable efforts by Patrol Officers showcased their commitment and diligence, which significantly bolster community safety. This exemplifies policing that truly impacts lives.”
The police action did not catch local businesses off-guard. Employees in the vicinity reported noticing unusual activities at the warehouse for several months, including unexpected foot and vehicle traffic during odd hours, which deviated from standard industrial operations.
“I had a suspicion it was that building because of the consistent traffic—lots of early morning and late-night activity with people who didn’t appear to be going to work,” one local shop owner shared with KTVU-TV/Oakland.
On average, San Jose police discover approximately one underground casino each year, frequently tied to cash-heavy environments susceptible to additional criminal activities. In October 2024, officers from the METRO Unit uncovered an illegal gambling and narcotics operation located in the 1400 block of Meadow Glen Way.
This particular raid resulted in the seizure of seven large illegal gaming machines, a loaded ghost gun, a short-barreled shotgun, ammunition, methamphetamine, cash, and drug paraphernalia, culminating in two arrests.
