- DraftKings to launch its online sportsbook and casino in Alberta, pending necessary approvals
- Alberta’s igaming market set to go live on July 13
- DraftKings joins a number of igaming operators planning to enter the Alberta marketplace
DraftKings has become the latest entity to express its intention to introduce an online sportsbook and casino in Alberta’s newly established competitive igaming sector, expected to debut on July 13.

Expanding Operator Landscape
This morning, DraftKings released a statement announcing its plans. This brand adds to a growing roster of major igaming entities looking to establish a presence in Western Canada.
Among others, FanDuel, BetMGM, PointsBet Canada, BetRivers, Betway, NorthStar, and Betty are also anticipated to launch on or shortly after the market opens.
DraftKings confirmed today that its sportsbook and online casino will be operational on July 13, subject to obtaining the necessary licensing and regulatory approvals.
20% of Net Revenues Contribute to Government
“We’re thrilled to expand DraftKings’ presence in Canada and provide our online sportsbook and casino services to Alberta customers,” stated Greg Karamitis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sports at DraftKings.
“This launch coinciding with the World Cup, hosted right here in North America, presents an exciting moment for sports fans in the province to engage with our platform.”
Alberta will represent the 34th jurisdiction in North America where DraftKings facilitates online sports betting and the seventh area featuring casino offerings.
New Regulatory Framework
This province will become the second Canadian region where DraftKings operates. The company commenced operations in Ontario in May 2022, shortly after that province’s competitive igaming market opened. Currently, Ontario boasts 48 licensed operators and 82 gaming websites, generating over $4 billion in net revenue in 2025, as reported by iGaming Ontario.
In Alberta, the newly established Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) will govern the igaming market, while the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) will oversee regulatory functions.
The provincial government is set to collect 20% of net igaming revenue, post allocations for First Nations and social responsibility funding (3% of gross gaming revenue).
Eligible residents of Alberta can now pre-register for DraftKings Sportsbook and Casino ahead of the market launch.
