A man from Las Vegas has been named as the suspect in a shooting that left one person dead and another injured after he used his driver’s license to check into a local Dotty’s Casino shortly after the incident, according to law enforcement.

Abdul Muhammad, aged 39, has been charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder associated with the shooting incident that claimed the life of Marquis Perkins on June 18, as reported by the Las Vegas Metro Police Department (LVMPD).
At around 9:03 p.m. that evening, LVMPD received reports of gunfire in a parking lot in the 4900 block of East Craig Road, where they discovered two individuals with gunshot wounds.
Perkins was declared deceased at the location, while his girlfriend, who was shot in the leg, was transported to a nearby hospital and is anticipated to recover. The couple’s two-year-old child was unharmed, according to LVMPD.
Shooting Documented on Camera
The arrest report indicates that Perkins, his girlfriend, and the child had arrived at the parking lot in a silver Mercedes, as the woman intended to use the laundromat. She was approached by an acquaintance known only as “D,” who was later identified as Muhammad, wishing to discuss T-shirts he was marketing.
Marquis instructed Muhammad to speak to him directly rather than his girlfriend, provoking an argument, the report states. Muhammad claimed he meant no offense, stating that Marquis had overreacted.
While the couple continued unloading their laundry, Muhammad opened fire, shooting Perkins multiple times; police confirmed the incident was recorded by security cameras from a nearby liquor store.
Muhammad unleashed 17 shots at the car containing the toddler, according to the arrest report.
The suspect was also captured on surveillance entering the nearby Dotty’s, where he changed his shirt. A staff member at the casino scanned his driver’s license, which enabled the police to identify Muhammad as the shooter.
Criminal Background
Muhammad possesses a significant criminal history and was on probation during the time of the shooting for a prior incident where he discharged a firearm in the same area as Perkins’s murder, reported The Las Vegas Review-Journal.
A five-time felon, his past convictions include robbery, attempted burglary, illegal firearm possession, and battery. He now faces additional charges for concealed carry without a permit and possession of a firearm as a prohibited individual.
Muhammad is currently being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in Las Vegas Justice Court on July 9.
