Visitor Wins $3.3M Slot Jackpot at Las Vegas Airport

  • A traveler with a layover at Las Vegas Airport scored a stunning $3.3 million jackpot on a Wheel of Fortune slot machine.
  • Slots at the airport typically provide lower payout rates compared to those found in casinos.
  • Nevertheless, the odds of hitting a top progressive jackpot with a single max bet remain unchanged.

A passenger at Harry Reid International Airport transformed an ordinary layover into a life-changing $3.3 million windfall over the weekend, as confirmed by airport officials.

The winner, who has been referred to as “Anthony” by the slot manufacturer IGT, placed a maximum bet of $10 on a Wheel of Fortune progressive machine located at the airport’s C gates, resulting in a total prize of $3,307,158.11.

The Wheel of Fortune progressive slots at the airport are connected to the same IGT statewide progressive pool as those found in Caesars Palace, indicating that the chances of achieving the highest jackpot symbols during a max-bet spin are identical. Industry estimates suggest that the odds of winning the top Wheel of Fortune progressive are approximately 1 in several million to 1 in 15 million per spin at max bet, although IGT does not publicly share precise figures.

Nonetheless, playing these machines at the airport may yield less favorable outcomes in terms of payout percentages, as airport slots generally offer lower Return-to-Player rates in the range of 80–85%, compared to 88–91% at Las Vegas Strip casinos. This discrepancy occurs because players at the airport are somewhat of a captive audience; all airport slots have been under the management of Michael Gaughan’s Airport Slot Concession since 1985.

Consequently, players receive fewer total spins for their investment, resulting in diminished chances to hit the progressive jackpot.

Yet, sometimes fortune smiles upon players and aligns the jackpot symbols in their favor.

Harry Reid International has witnessed several remarkable wins in recent times. In May 2025, another traveler struck $1.8 million on a Wheel of Fortune machine situated in the D Gates. Other notable jackpots included $1.4 million and $1.3 million wins in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

This recent jackpot does not hold the record for the largest prize won at the Las Vegas Airport. In 2005, a lucky player won nearly $4 million on a 25-cent spin of the Wheel of Fortune. The highest airport jackpot recorded in the U.S. occurred in 2010, when a Megabucks machine cashed out $10.4 million at Reno Tahoe International.

Approximately 200 to 300 progressive machines are located throughout Harry Reid’s A, B, C, D, and E gates, which accounts for about 17% of the airport’s 1,400 plus slot machines.

Although “Anthony” will be subject to a mandatory federal tax withholding of 24%, Nevada does not impose a state income tax, allowing him to retain the remainder of his winnings.

Airport officials publicly congratulated Anthony, stating: “Thank you for making LAS a part of your lucky journey.”
