Vegas Sportsbook Targeted by One of the Most Foolish Casino Thieves Ever

Las Vegas is notorious for its unforgettable casino heists, but a freshly hired sportsbook worker at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas may have set a new benchmark … for being notoriously poor at committing a crime.

As reported by Casino.org’s own Vital Vegas, this employee — who had just begun his position at the William Hill Sportsbook — allegedly attempted to rob the very establishment he had been hired to serve.

Brandishing a knife and donning a mask, he reportedly threatened his coworkers and made off with approximately $28,000. Fortunately, no one sustained injuries, but bystanders may have felt like they were witnessing a scene straight out of a potential reboot of America’s Dumbest Criminals.

His grand scheme unravelled almost instantly. First, he chose a casino bathroom to change into his mask, mistakenly believing that these areas lacked surveillance. However, he clearly overlooked that surveillance cameras monitor every corridor, entryway, and nook of a casino, apart from the restrooms.

Surveillance footage captured him entering the restroom unmasked, only to emerge minutes later sporting a mask.

It Gets Even Funnier

The crowning blunder occurred the following day when the suspect allegedly returned to the same William Hill sportsbook he had just robbed for his scheduled shift, carrying a backpack.

This backpack contained the knife and mask used during the heist, along with a majority of the stolen cash.

Security apprehended the suspect, and law enforcement took him into custody.

This event did not initially receive coverage from local law enforcement or media outlets. Instead, Vital Vegas obtained the information from a reliable anonymous insider.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has yet to publicly confirm any specifics, and Virgin Hotels has refrained from commenting beyond directing all inquiries to the Las Vegas police department — which, as pointed out by Vital Vegas, effectively serves as a confirmation.

Under Nevada law, robbery is classified as a category B felony that can result in a prison sentence of 2-15 years. The use of a knife may also invoke a deadly weapon enhancement, adding another 1-20 consecutive years.
