A Utah resident, Sandra Joann Clantz, is taking legal action against both the Capri Motel located on East Fremont Street in Las Vegas and the escort listing platform that connected her with her assailant, following a nearly fatal stabbing incident.
As reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Clantz initiated her civil lawsuit in Nevada District Court last week, asserting that the Capri Motel neglected to ensure basic security measures, despite its known history of criminal incidents.
The lawsuit claims that the motel’s irresponsibility “permitted ongoing criminal activities,” which ultimately led to the violent act against her.
Additionally, Clantz is suing Skip the Games, which markets itself as “the world’s largest directory of independent escorts, agency escorts, and other adult service providers,” for neglecting to safeguard users from threats and for promoting prostitution and sex trafficking.
According to the legal complaint, Skip the Games was utilized by Ryan Heider to reach out to Clantz in November 2024. Clantz alleges that he traveled from Michigan specifically to meet her at the Capri Motel, where he brutally stabbed her 27 times and left her outside the room, believing she would not survive.
Teenage Assailant
The lawsuit also contends that Skip the Games lacks an adequate “screening or verification system” to ensure that minors access the site only with proper parental consent or guidance. Heider, being 17 years old at the time, falsely claimed to be 22.
Heider, who is not mentioned in the civil suit, faced trial as an adult in October 2025, where he pleaded guilty to charges of mayhem with a deadly weapon and residential burglary. He received a sentence ranging from eight to 25 years in prison.
Clantz is pursuing a jury trial along with damages exceeding $15,000 from both defendants— a standard minimum in Nevada that allows the potential for much larger claims in the future.
In a statement to the R-J, a spokesperson for Skip the Games, Elsa Kiva, referred to the incident as “horrific” and emphasized that the platform enforces “strict screening protocols” meant to keep minors off the site. She added that the lawsuit has not yet been formally served to the company.
Efforts by the newspaper to reach the Capri Motel’s management were unsuccessful.
