Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City is partnering with its parent company’s online casino platform BetMGM and its own iGaming website and app Borgata Online Casino by lending one of its roulette tables.

MGM Resorts International, the operator of Borgata, has teamed up with BetMGM, a prominent sportsbook and iGaming brand in the US, to launch “Dual Play Roulette.” This unique offering enables both physical and online players to participate simultaneously in the same game.

In collaboration with Evolution Gaming, a leading provider of remote live dealer table games, the live dealer Dual Play Roulette table streams action directly from the Borgata casino floor, creating an immersive gaming experience for online players.

Oliver Bartlett, BetMGM’s director of online gaming, states, “Dual Play Roulette truly meets players where they are. This is a great example of online and land-based casinos leveraging technology to provide players with a superior omnichannel experience.”

Borgata once again dominated the Atlantic City casino market in the previous year, generating over $724.4 million in gross gaming revenue (GGR). Hard Rock trailed far behind with $492.3 million.

Borgata’s online casino operations also outperformed its competitors in New Jersey. In 2022, BetMGM and Borgata Online Casino generated $496.2 million in revenue from iCasino players, with Golden Nugget’s online gaming platform coming in second at $431.7 million.

Dual Play Gameplay

The designated Dual Play Roulette table at Borgata is strategically positioned on the casino floor, equipped with multiple cameras capturing the wheel and felt. These cameras broadcast the table to online players.

In-person players are informed through a sign that the game is also being played online, although the cameras only show the actual table.

Gaming on this table and ambient background sounds of the casino are being broadcasted on the internet. Only player’s hands, the roulette betting area, and the roulette wheel will be visible during normal roulette play,” the sign explains. “Your presence at this table is deemed as your consent.

Roulette remains a popular table game in US casinos. In 2022, roulette wheels in Nevada generated GGR of $455.9 million, ranking third after blackjack ($1.29 billion) and baccarat ($1.17 billion), although New Jersey does not provide a breakdown of table game revenue by game.

iGaming Infancy

Legal online casino gambling is currently only available in six states: New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

While iGaming platforms generate substantial revenue, casino representatives state that this income is not as profitable because a significant portion is shared with third-party operators like BetMGM. Additionally, online casino players do not engage in activities such as purchasing food and drinks, shopping, attending shows, or staying overnight.

Speaking of overnight stays, Borgata recently unveiled the renovated MGM Tower, previously known as The Water Club, following a $55 million renovation. The MGM Tower now offers over 700 guestrooms and suites.
