Circa Sports, recognized by many sharp bettors as the preferred regulated bookmaker, is making its debut in Arizona.
Las Vegas-based Circa has announced its entry into the Grand Canyon State, as revealed earlier on Monday by the Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG). This move comes after a recent bidding process aimed at expanding the state’s list of authorized sportsbook operators.
“As of July 27, 2026, the Department has granted an event wagering license to Circa Sports Arizona LLC, representing the San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe. This approval allows the operator to engage in sports betting and event wagering in Arizona,” stated by the regulatory body.
According to the 2021 legislation that legalized online sports wagering in Arizona, the state can issue a total of 20 sportsbook licenses—10 reserved for tribal entities and 10 for professional sports teams within the state. While a specific launch date for Circa in Arizona has yet to be disclosed, the ADG is actively coordinating with the sportsbook operator on the next steps.
Strategic Expansion by Circa Sports
With this new approval, Arizona will be the seventh state where Circa Sports provides online sports betting services. Other states include Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, and Nevada. Additionally, the company runs physical sportsbooks in Illinois, Kentucky, and its home state of Nevada.
Derek Stevens’ company may find this Arizona venture advantageous. Its proximity to Las Vegas suggests that a significant number of Arizona bettors are likely familiar with the Circa brand and its reputation for accommodating large wagers. Speculations about Circa’s potential expansion into Arizona had circulated for several years prior to this announcement.
Circa Sports has been discerning in its expansion strategy, typically avoiding markets with high sports betting taxes and stringent hold requirements. Currently, Arizona does not exhibit these characteristics, making it an emerging contender in the U.S. sports betting landscape.
“Since Arizona legalized sports betting in 2021, bettors have placed wagers totaling $35.3 billion, generating about $190.6 million in event wagering privilege fees for the state,” noted the ADG.
Arizona’s Competitive Sports Betting Landscape
The ADG website lists 14 regulated sportsbook operators, positioning Circa as the fifteenth entrant. Dominating this group are prominent names like DraftKings and FanDuel, alongside other competitors such as Bet365, BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, and Rush Street Interactive (Bet Rivers).
Thus, Arizona presents a fiercely competitive sports betting environment. The landscape has already seen multiple operators exit, with at least eight leaving in the past five years due to difficulties in attracting customers.
