Six suspects face federal charges in Alabama for their alleged involvement in shootings at a casino, two nightclubs, and other criminal activities.
A fatal shooting occurred at the Scarlet Pearl Casino in D’Iberville, Miss., leading to the death of Nicholaus “Nick” Craig, 36, in September 2022.
Craig was shot once while sitting in a car parked across from the casino.
He had been traveling to visit his family in Mobile, Ala., to celebrate his birthday. Before heading to his relative’s place, he and his girlfriend had dinner at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
Later in the night, Craig left the hotel for a ride as he was experiencing back pain from recent surgery.
Car Set Ablaze
The remains of Craig’s rental car, a dark blue Nissan Altima, were found at an apartment complex in Prichard, Ala. The car was set on fire, causing significant damage, according to a report by Mississippi TV station, WXXV.
Craig was originally from Mobile and had recently been residing in California.
Several of the indicted individuals are believed to have been involved in the Mississippi casino shooting and related crimes.
Federal indictments were also made in relation to shootings at Bank Nightclub and Paparazzi Club, both located in Mobile.
Derek Shavers lost his life in the Bank Nightclub shooting on September 18, 2022. He was reportedly an innocent bystander when Reginald Dennis Alan Fluker allegedly shot him.
The indicted defendants include: Fluker, John Fitzgerald McCarroll, Darrius Dwayne Rowser, Karmelo Cortez Morris Derks, Jimaurice Pierce, and Lyteria Isheeia Hollis.
The six suspects were indicted on Sunday in Mobile federal court, and the indictments were unsealed on Tuesday.
Alleged Mastermind
According to Alabama regional news site AL.com, McCarroll is believed to be the mastermind behind the shootings.
McCarroll, Fluker, Rowser, Pierce, and Hollis face federal charges of conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire. McCarroll and Fluker also face murder-for-hire charges.
McCarroll and Rowser are also charged with murder-for-hire in another incident.
Rowser and Derks are facing charges of conspiracy to commit carjacking and interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle.
In addition, McCarroll and Hollis, who is reportedly McCarroll’s girlfriend, face charges of obstruction and witness tampering.
Pierce is charged with possession of an unregistered firearm and illegal possession of a machine gun.
Prior to the federal indictments, Rowser and Derks had already been charged with first-degree murder in Craig’s death, as reported by Mississippi TV station WLOX.
McCarroll and Rowser were also charged by Mobile police in relation to the Paparazzi Club shooting in 2022, which left four victims injured.
Derks, Pierce, and Rowser are also facing charges for a shooting that took place at an I-65 Walmart in Mobile in December.
