LAS VEGAS – The 2019 Global Gaming Expo (G2E) wrapped up last week at the Sands Expo and Convention Center, with more than 27,000 gaming professionals gathering to discuss and learn more about the future of the industry.

With that many people and nearly 400 exhibitors on the expo floor, there’s no way to easily sum up the entire conference in just one article. You can find previous articles from this year’s G2E conference, including the keynotes and breakout sessions, in the hyperlinks throughout this article.
In addition, we’ll have in-depth articles in the coming weeks based off some of the topics discussed at the conference and how they’ll affect the future of gaming. That includes such topics as what happens next in sports betting and how casinos can modernize.
In the meantime, I’ll share with you a couple of thoughts about what gaming innovations that I really liked that may be coming to a casino or sportsbook near you.

Best Game
The fun part of G2E is walking the show floor. This year, nearly 400 vendors showcased their services and products. The industry’s leading game manufacturers were on hand to display the latest innovations in both slot machine and video gaming, as well as table games.
There were slot machines based off pop culture references. Too many to name, but if you watch the videos I’ve embedded in this article, you’ll get a good idea.
But the best game on the show floor wasn’t a slot machine. Instead, it was a variation on blackjack showcased by Scientific Games.
U-Turn Blackjack uses a shoe that can read if the dealer has blackjack. If the dealer doesn’t have 21, the shoe will then allow the dealer to continue taking cards, all face down, until the dealer has at least 17. Then, the players can take cards if they wish to hit.
This provides an interesting strategic element for the player. If the dealer has just two cards, then the player knows the dealer has at least 17. If the dealer has three or more cards, only one of which is showing, the player has to decide whether they want to risk going bust.
Besides the dealer drawing cards first, the other variation to blackjack is that all hands, except for blackjacks and busts, push if the dealer has 22.

Best Sportsbook Innovation
Retail sportsbooks face a stiff challenge from the emerging mobile sports betting market. But there are some things a retail book can offer that you just can’t get from betting off an app.
While most people think of sportsbooks as open theaters with large-screen televisions side-by-side showing a variety of games, IGT has developed something that’s a little more personal.
The CrystalBetting terminal was on full display at G2E. The desk-sized terminal is designed for a VIP bettor, featuring privacy dividers, a workstation, a headphone jack, and a USB charging port.
But the key feature is a 27-inch touchscreen monitor. Not only can bettors watch a game on the screen, they can also place bets directly from their station. That includes both pre-game and in-game betting options.
Currently, IGT has the terminals on a 90-day trial run at Mississippi Choctaw Pearl River Resort’s Golden Moon and Silver Star casinos.
