Hollywood Casino Columbus may soon undergo a $100 million expansion, including the addition of a 200-room hotel and new amenities.
Hollywood Columbus opened in 2012, after Ohio voters approved casino gambling. Penn Entertainment was one of the operators that obtained a license to operate a casino in Ohio, and they opened Hollywood Casino Columbus on Oct. 8, 2012.
The casino is owned by Gaming and Leisure Properties, Inc. Penn Entertainment leases the casino operations from GLPI.
$100M Expansion
Penn Entertainment and GLPI have signed a contract with the Columbus Building and Construction Trades Council to begin the $100 million expansion project. The project includes the construction of a seven-floor, 150,000-square-foot hotel adjacent to the current casino.
The majority of the project will be funded by GLPI. The hotel will offer food and beverage options, conference space, a fitness center, and an outdoor terrace.
According to Rick Skinner, vice president and general manager of Hollywood Casino Columbus, the new amenities and hotel will attract new clients and businesses to the area.
Construction is expected to begin in the fall, but no timeline for completion has been announced.
Integrated Resorts
Once finished, Hollywood Casino Columbus will be the first integrated resort casino in Ohio.
The state’s other casinos, Hard Rock Casino Cincinnati, Jack Cleveland Casino, and Hollywood Casino Toledo, do not currently have on-site hotels but have partnerships with nearby hotels to accommodate guests.
Hollywood Columbus has the largest gaming floor among the four brick-and-mortar casinos in Ohio and offers a variety of games and betting options.
The property started accepting in-person sports bets in January and recently added a Barstool Sportsbook. In January, retail and online sports betting were launched in Ohio, resulting in significant revenue for the state.
