LuckyLand Slots is set to conclude its operations approximately eight years after its debut in North America.

VGW (Virtual Gaming Worlds) has announced that the sale of Gold Coins will stop on August 3, 2026. Gameplay on the sweepstakes slots will be discontinued by August 24, and all platform operations will conclude, including account redemptions, by September 14.

“For the last eight years, LuckyLand Slots has been proud to be your trusted online social casino. We have cherished every moment with you and are thankful for the remarkable community we’ve formed together,” stated a message to players of LuckyLand Slots.

Since its launch in 2018, LuckyLand Slots has operated as a slots-only social gaming site. It is branded as a sweepstakes casino where users can buy Gold Coins, a secondary virtual currency redeemable for cash later.

VGW is a major player in social sweepstakes gaming, also managing popular brands like Chumba Casino, LuckyLand Casino, and Global Poker. It is important to note that Gold Coins from LuckyLand Slots cannot be transferred to LuckyLand Casino or any other VGW related site.

Company Challenges

VGW is currently navigating significant changes following the recent resignation of its founder and CEO, billionaire Laurence Escalante. His resignation comes amid serious legal issues in Australia, including over a dozen charges related to domestic violence, burglary, property destruction, and drug possession.

Mats Johnson, the Senior Director at VGW, has stepped in as the acting CEO while the company conducts a worldwide search for a new permanent leader.

In addition to Escalante’s departure, the social gaming industry is experiencing increased regulatory scrutiny in the US, with various states issuing cease and desist orders or enacting laws that classify dual-currency promotional gaming as illegal gambling.

Chumba, VGW’s leading social sweepstakes casino, has ceased real-money play in 16 states. By the end of 2024, only five states remained where Chumba was able to operate using sweeps coins.

VGW surged in popularity during the COVID pandemic, with gross revenues skyrocketing from $350 million to $2.2 billion within two years, attributed largely to widespread lockdowns.

In its fiscal year 2025, VGW reported revenues close to $4.8 billion.
