Washington State’s Lucky Eagle Casino temporarily closed recently due to a police killing on the grounds. A Chehalis tribal police officer fatally shot a murder suspect while pursuing him inside the casino.
The suspect, Darren Evans, 33, was shot by the unnamed police officer after he was spotted on the casino property. Evans was suspected in connection with a 2022 murder case. Lucky Eagle Casino remains closed amidst a police investigation. The casino’s operational status is pending further notice.
Details on the Incident
An eyewitness video of the incident has surfaced, offering more context on the shooting inside the casino. According to witness Dee Thomas, “He was running toward my direction. I think he tried to get to the front door exit, and then all of a sudden, I see the officer shot him right in the middle of the floor.”
More information is likely to be released as a federal probe into the casino shooting is conducted by an assortment of law enforcement agencies.
Before the recent casino incident, Evans was wanted for charges in connection with a local murder case. He was also a repeat offender with an extensive criminal record for various offenses, including assault, burglary, and escape. The late victim, Dion Bartro, 52, was found deceased inside a private residence in Puyallup following a shooting incident on September 25, 2022.
