In July, New York’s eight online sportsbooks accrued $214.4 million in gross gaming revenue, according to a report from the New York Gaming Commission released on Friday.

The total was derived from a $1.88 billion handle, yielding an 11.4% hold, which is more than double the percentage registered in June.

In contrast, June’s handle hit a record high of $2.25 billion, though the hold dipped to 5.19%, resulting in only $116.8 million in revenue for that month.

July turned the tide: although the handle decreased by about $376 million, or 16.7%, compared to June, revenue surged by approximately 83.5% as sportsbooks kept a larger proportion of each dollar bet.

Revenue growth month-over-month was reported by six of the state’s eight sportsbooks, and a 37.8% increase was noted year-over-year. The July hold also brought the market back in line with figures from January through May, when monthly holds remained above 8% prior to June’s drop.

World Cup Boosts Betting Activity

The upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup hosted in North America has stimulated betting activity during a typically quieter month, once the NFL, NBA, and NHL seasons conclude, leaving Major League Baseball as the primary focus.

New York’s handle in July climbed 34.3% year-over-year, following a 36.6% increase in June; collectively, the two World Cup months yielded $4.1 billion in wagers.

Positive outcomes on the three-way moneyline, particularly Spain’s win against Argentina in the final, contributed to the boosted hold. Despite July’s handle falling below $2 billion for the first time in 11 months, it still exceeded the $1.40 billion reported in July 2025 and the $1.26 billion from July 2024.

Increase in Tax Revenues

New York imposes a hefty 51% tax rate on mobile sports wagering revenues, with the majority of funds allocated to educational initiatives and additional annual distributions supporting youth sports as well as treatment and education for problem gambling. The state collected about $109.3 million in taxes from July’s results, a dramatic increase from $59.6 million in June, reversing most of June’s decrease.

Year-to-date tax revenue has now exceeded $725 million, following the $1.32 billion collected in 2025.

Rankings Among Operators

DraftKings emerged as the top online operator for the second consecutive July, achieving a $661.5 million handle. Its 11% hold generated $72.9 million in gross revenue, the state’s second-highest total. FanDuel surpassed all with a record gross revenue of $86.1 million, doubling its June amount with a $651.2 million handle and a 13.2% hold.

Fanatics Sportsbook reported $21.1 million in July, a remarkable 129% increase from June, on more than $221.6 million in wagers, coming close to a double-digit hold. BetMGM achieved an 11.3% hold on a $138.3 million handle, producing $15.6 million in revenue.

Caesars registered a 9.3% hold with $122.6 million in wagers, yielding $11.4 million in revenue. BetRivers took $40 million in bets at an 8.8% hold, while theScore Bet and Bally Bet both recorded lower win rates and fell short of their June revenue sums.
