The poker ecosystem in Latin America is set to be revolutionized by an upcoming live tournament event that promises to raise the bar for the region. The Kings Series of Poker (KSOP) GGPoker South America, scheduled for January of next year in Brazil, is expected to be the largest poker event ever held in South America. With a guaranteed prize pool of BRL35 million (US$7.1 million), it is an event not to be missed.
Held over a span of 15 days in Rio de Janeiro, specifically in the picturesque beachside town of Barra da Tijuca, the event will feature over 70 exciting tournaments. Among them is the BRL$100,000 (US$20,000) Super High Roller, considered to be the most extravagant event, attracting both Brazilian and international poker stars.
Another highlight of the tournament is the BRL5,000 (US$1,000) Main Event, which guarantees a prize pool of BRL10 million (US$2 million). Not only will the winner take home their share of the prize pool, but they will also receive an additional guaranteed amount of BRL2 million (US$408,000).
Elevating Poker in South America
The KSOP press release declares that the tournament series will have a groundbreaking impact on the Brazilian poker community. It promises to introduce an unprecedented level of excitement and glamour to the Brazilian poker scene, with the Super High Roller being the most prestigious event of all.

Felipe “Mojave” Ramos, a renowned GGPoker ambassador and Brazil’s fourth-highest earner in poker, recently tweeted about the event on Twitter’s latest platform, X. He emphasized the incredible opportunity the tournament presents for players, highlighting the absence of direct taxes on winnings and the availability of events suitable for all budgets, making it inclusive for a wide range of participants.
GGPoker, the online poker platform, will run satellite events starting on November 5, offering participants a chance to win a spot in the main event. Additionally, GGPoker will feature various tournaments and opportunities to win complete packages that include entry to the event as well as accommodation at the luxurious Sheraton Grand Rio.
This highly anticipated series is a collaboration between GGPoker and KSOP that began earlier this year. The premiere series was held in Rio de Janeiro from February 8 to 14, marking the start of a scheduled lineup of seven stages across different Latin American countries. Five of these stages are live events, while the remaining two are hosted online.
Poker Calendar Filling Up
Despite a decrease in participation in certain poker events, the recently concluded World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas broke attendance records, underscoring the continued interest in the game. As a result, the global poker calendar is becoming increasingly packed with exciting tournaments and competitions.
Currently underway is the Maryland State Poker Championship, followed by the upcoming WSOP Europe in October. While the WSOP Europe Main Event may not yet offer a $12 million grand prize like its Las Vegas counterpart, it is steadily closing the gap.
This year’s WSOP Europe, returning to the Czech Republic, boasts a guaranteed prize pool of €5 million ($5.51 million), surpassing last year’s guarantee by $2.3 million.
In addition, PokerStars and Casino Barcelona are making Spain the center of international poker this month. Casino Barcelona will host the Spanish Poker Championship from August 11 to 21, followed by the Estrellas Poker Tour from August 21 to 28.
The PokerStars Live European Poker Tour (EPT), which has already stopped in France and Monte Carlo, will also make its way to Barcelona from August 21 to September 3. It will then move to Cyprus in October and Prague in December.
