Coney Island’s iconic Cyclone roller coaster in New York’s Brooklyn came to a sudden halt last week due to a mechanical issue.
The 97-year-old wooden coaster ceased operation while riders were on board. After a damaged chain sprocket was found in the motor room, guests were safely assisted off the ride.
Luna Park, the operator of the city’s largest amusement park, confirmed the issue and reassured visitors of their commitment to safety and maintenance.
At Luna Park in Coney Island, safety is our number one priority. The Cyclone roller coaster, being 97 years old, undergoes daily testing to ensure rider safety,” Luna Park officials stated.
Following the incident, Luna Park was issued code violations for maintenance and delayed reporting to city authorities.
Located just blocks away from a potential $3 billion casino project, the Cyclone is at the center of developments in the area.
