The Fanatics Sportsbook at Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City is not offering betting on the Detroit Tigers’ MLB Postseason run.
The Tigers completed an upset of the Houston Astros in the American League Wild Card Series, advancing to face the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Division Series.
Despite initial low odds, the Tigers secured a playoff spot after an unlikely run capped off with an upset victory over the Orioles in September.
DraftKings’ odds for the Tigers to win the World Series have improved significantly, reflecting their strong performance in the postseason.
Ocean Book Banned From Tigers Action
Despite the Tigers’ success, Ocean Casino Resort is prohibited from accepting bets on the team due to its ownership connections to Ilitch Holdings, Inc.
The Ilitch family, who owns the Tigers, also has a 50% stake in Ocean, leading to the sportsbook restriction on Tigers’ games.
New Jersey regulations restrict sportsbooks with ownership ties to sports teams from accepting bets on those teams.
However, betting on the Tigers is still available through Fanatics’ online platform licensed with Bally’s in New Jersey.
Ilitch Holdings acquired its position in Ocean in 2021 and has invested in completing the resort’s hotel rooms.
In addition to Ocean, Ilitch Holdings owns MotorCity Casino Hotel in Detroit, which operates FanDuel Sportsbook allowing bets on the Tigers.
Stevens’ Big Bet
Casino owner Derek Stevens has placed significant bets on the Tigers to win the American League and the World Series.
Stevens revealed placing bets with BetMGM that could yield substantial payouts if the Tigers continue their winning streak.
Detroit faces off against Cleveland in the ALDS, with odds favoring the Guardians.
