Hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of items were stolen from two resort casinos and other Las Vegas locations by a husband and wife earlier this year, as reported recently.

The wife, Viviana Hernandez, was charged this month for the theft scheme. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) officers initially apprehended her in February, along with apprehending her husband, Leonardo Munoz. Munoz still has several pending warrants, police said.

Both are from California and were staying at an unnamed Las Vegas Strip hotel when the thefts occurred, according to Las Vegas TV station KLAS.

They were tracked down after a bag they allegedly stole, equipped with an Apple AirTag, provided their location. It’s a GPS tracking device.

The device led police officers to the hotel room where the couple was staying. Officers found stolen items in the room. More stolen items were found after a later Las Vegas traffic stop, KLAS reported.

Additional suspects are likely to have taken part in the thefts, according to KLAS. So far, they haven’t been arrested.

The thefts occurred in the days leading up to Super Bowl LVIII, which took place in Las Vegas on February 11.

Mandalay Bay, Aria Were Crime Scenes

In one incident, DraftKings, the sports betting company, informed the LVMPD that camera equipment was stolen from a stage at the Mandalay Bay gaming property. It included cameras and lenses, valued in the tens of thousands of dollars.

Around the same time, various video equipment was stolen from the Aria Resort & Casino.

Additionally, AREA15, an immersive entertainment district off the Las Vegas Strip, was the location of more thefts from a dressing room.

Jason Derulo’s Property Stolen

Among those affected at AREA15 was Jason Desrouleax, better known as singer Jason Derulo. He is also a dancer and songwriter.

He was one of the performers at “The Legends Party” event at AREA15 during that time. The stolen items included jewelry, watches, and cash.

The total value of the missing items from AREA15 was reported to be over $300K by the police.

Derulo has sold over 250M singles and 14 of his songs have been certified platinum singles, according to Wikipedia. His music spans pop, R&B, and hip-hop genres.
