A Pennsylvania woman has initiated a negligence lawsuit against Live! Casino Pittsburgh after alleging that a pipe burst and sewage spilled on her while inside the gaming property.
The victim, Rita Romagnoli from Greensburg, Pa., was present at the casino with her husband, Robert, on July 28, as per Pennsylvania TV station KDKA.
When she was gambling, the pipe burst without any prior warning.
While seated at a slot machine, Rita was … drenched with human fecal matter due to an overhead pipe which burst,” according to the recently-filed legal action.
Experience with Bacterial Pneumonia
This incident led to her hospitalization for two weeks, she disclosed.
As a direct and proximate result of the negligence of the defendants, plaintiff contracted bacterial pneumonia which resulted in a 15-day inpatient stay at Westmoreland Hospital,” the lawsuit stated, as reported by KDKA.
According to online sources, bacterial pneumonia is a lung infection that affects air sacs and tissue in the lungs.
Rita Romagnoli and her family went through pain, suffering, inconvenience, embarrassment, mental anguish, as well as emotional and psychological trauma due to the incident, KDKA reported.
Stadium Casino, a Pennsylvania limited liability corporation that runs Live! Casino Pittsburgh, was among the entities named in the lawsuit.
Stadium Casino allegedly “failed to maintain and/or repair the premises to ensure guests were safe, failed to inspect and/or repair known or unknown defects in the premises and failed to prevent and/or remove a dangerous condition of the premises,” according to KDKA.
The lawsuit was filed in a Pennsylvania court, with the plaintiff’s lawyers seeking $30K in damages.
The Romagnolis are being represented by Summers, McDonnell, Hudock, Guthrie & Raunch, a Pittsburgh-based law firm known for handling personal injury cases.
Another Affected Individual
Recently, an unnamed woman recounted her similar experience to KDKA.
“I was sitting at a slot machine, and all of a sudden water came pouring down on me and another gentleman that I did not know, that was sitting at the slot machine next to me,” she said.
It was in my hair. It hit my face. And it was all over my clothes. I mean, I was like, literally, soaking wet.”
She mentioned that casino employees told her the substance that landed on her was “water.”
However, she expressed doubts.
“I was a little more concerned because I didn’t know what the water was. They assured me that they thought it was just regular water and everything,” she said.
It’s a little suspect that the same thing happened to this lady,” the second woman added. “It’s very, very scary and very concerning.”
