Marriott International and MGM Resorts International have announced a collaboration to transform the Delano Las Vegas into the W brand.
The conversion is expected to take place later this year and builds upon the previously announced partnership between the two companies. They introduced the MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy earlier this year, allowing certain MGM properties to be booked through Marriott’s website and the Bonvoy mobile app.
Located on the Mandalay Bay Campus, the property is set to officially become part of the W Hotels portfolio later this year, with more plans for the property in the future,” as stated by the two companies.
Delano is currently a non-gaming hotel, and there are no plans to change this status when it becomes part of the W brand.
Delano Rebrand Strengthens Marriott and MGM Partnership
The transformation of the Delano Las Vegas to Marriott’s upscale W brand is the newest development in the partnership between the hotel operator and MGM.
W hotels are included in the larger Bonvoy portfolio, suggesting that the Las Vegas property may be added to the MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy. The licensing agreement, revealed in July 2023, covers MGM’s 17 domestic properties, including those in Las Vegas and the brand’s regional casino hotels.
The collaboration, which allows MGM Rewards members to earn Marriott Bonvoy points, has been successful. MGM CEO Bill Hornbuckle stated that the partnership with Marriott exceeded expectations and is expected to drive growth this year.
“Since the launch of MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy in March 2024, bookings have exceeded expectations, with hundreds of thousands of room nights reserved. This collaboration between trusted hospitality brands allows over 200 million Marriott Bonvoy members to enjoy unique benefits at MGM Resorts while MGM Rewards members can receive benefits at Marriott’s global portfolio of around 9,000 properties,” according to the press release.
Delano Conversion Impact on Accor
MGM’s decision to partner with Marriott to convert the Delano to the W brand is a setback for Accor Hotel Group, the current owner of the Delano. With the upcoming change of the Las Vegas property, the French hospitality company will no longer have any U.S. properties under the Delano name.
For Marriott and MGM, the W will be the 12th venue on the Las Vegas Strip within the MGM Collection group.
The gaming company, the largest operator on the Strip, is also rebranding the NoMad at Park MGM. Hilton obtained a majority stake in NoMad operator Sydell Group and announced plans to part ways with the boutique hotel in Las Vegas, which occupied four floors of Park MGM.
