- Two friends aim to break a Guinness World Record in Las Vegas this Thursday, Sept. 25
- Track their endeavor to gamble in at least 75 casinos within 24 hours on this website
Las Vegas is always buzzing with activities, but this Thursday, two best friends are set to accomplish an unprecedented feat in global history.

On Thursday, September 25, Joel Strasser and Garrett Smith, renowned from The Amazing Race Season 35, are joining forces with Casino.org to pursue the Guinness World Record for the “Most Casinos Visited in 24 Hours.”
Both military veterans, Strasser and Smith are well-versed in tackling formidable challenges and achieving remarkable accomplishments.
In addition to securing second place on The Amazing Race, they have completed military deployments to Iraq and served in the Idaho Army National Guard and Military Police Corps. Collectively, they hold a total of 20 Guinness World Records, with many linked to Joel’s beard, as well as a record for the longest cornhole shot using a slingshot (who knew?!).
Affectionately referring to each other as Strasser and Smyth, given their military background and the number of Smiths in their unit, they aim to boost their Guinness World Records count to an impressive 21.
“Strasser is consistently on the lookout for the next Guinness World Record to conquer. This particular attempt aligns perfectly with our passion for The Amazing Race,” said Smyth. “We started exploring options and stumbled upon the contest through Casino.org.”
“The inspiration for this challenge came over a year and a half ago,” Strasser remarked.
On Thursday at 3 PM local time, Strasser and Smith will embark on their rapid expedition across Las Vegas, traversing the Strip, downtown, and Henderson, aiming to visit and gamble at as many casinos as they can before the clock strikes 3 PM on Friday.
Record for Most Casinos Visited in 24 Hours
Since October 2017, the 24-hour Guinness World Record for the most casinos visited stands at 74, set by Kimo Ah Yun and Gary Meyer. Strasser and Smyth’s goal is to surpass this record by visiting at least 75 casinos, although they aspire for an even loftier target.
“This record poses significant logistical challenges,” Strasser noted. “The requirements set by Guinness are intricate, making it tough to navigate through all the regulations. This is likely why it has remained unbroken for almost a decade.”
Many prior attempts have failed, often due to exhaustion, logistical issues, or rule violations.
According to Guinness World Records, participants must gamble on table games or electronic table games — slot machines are not allowed. Besides this, Strasser and Smyth are not permitted to utilize taxis, rideshare services including Uber, or hire vehicles.
They are allowed to use public transport like the Monorail, although they plan to navigate primarily on bikes and foot.
Garrett and Joel Set for Their Attempt
With their map of Southern Nevada meticulously planned, Strasser and Smyth are ready to kick off their attempt. The duo has spent several days in Las Vegas finalizing their Guinness World Record challenge preparations.
In response to how they plan to overcome sleep deprivation, Strasser emphasized that the excitement of the moment and their adventures on The Amazing Race will drive them toward securing their 21st Guinness World Record.
“Regular people wouldn’t dare do this,” Garrett candidly observed. “We’re not exactly typical.”
“You tap into a unique energy and momentum when embarking on an exciting journey,” Strasser added. “We are confident we will succeed.”
“We live by the principle of consistency over motivation. As fatigue sets in, motivation can fade, but consistency means we keep pushing ahead regardless,” explained Smyth.
Smyth and Strasser will need to stay well-hydrated, especially with the forecast indicating mid-90s temperatures on Thursday and lows hovering above 70 degrees.
