- Should President Donald Trump achieve his vision, Las Vegas may host a Republican midterm convention next year.
- This would mark the first midterm convention ever for the Republican Party.
- Democrats tried a similar approach in the 1970s and 1980s.
Las Vegas is emerging as the leading candidate for a Republican midterm convention planned by President Trump ahead of the upcoming elections, as reported by The Wall Street Journal. Washington, DC, and an undisclosed Texas city are also contenders, but Las Vegas is currently favored.

According to The Journal, Trump introduced the concept of a midterm convention last year to promote Republican candidates for the House and Senate while energizing his supporters. He envisions an event similar to the “entertainment-rich” convention held for his presidential campaign last July in Milwaukee, which featured performances from Kid Rock and a memorable speech by Hulk Hogan, who dramatically revealed a Trump shirt during his appearance.
As reported by The Journal, the convention is planned to take place shortly before early voting begins next September.
Two Significant Milestones

A midterm convention in Las Vegas would set two remarkable precedents — it would be the first national political convention ever hosted in Las Vegas and the first midterm convention for the GOP. While the Democrats experimented with midterm conventions in the 1970s and 1980s, these efforts were informal and short-lived.
“Stay tuned, it will be an unforgettable Event, and extremely thrilling!” Trump shared on his social media platform, Truth Social, following the announcement of this idea last month.
Trump secured Nevada with 50.6% of the vote in 2024, marking the first time in twenty years that a Republican candidate won this pivotal state. He also co-owns a prominent 64-story hotel off the Strip featuring his name.
The party in power typically faces losses during midterm elections. Presently, Republicans hold slim majorities in both the House and Senate, making it crucial for them to maintain their positions.
Meanwhile, the Democrats are also contemplating their midterm convention, although details have yet to be disclosed.
