- This marks the latest sale of a B.C. casino by Great Canadian Entertainment
Great Canadian Entertainment has officially confirmed the sale of Hastings Casino in Vancouver to the Tsleil-Waututh Nation (TWN).

The parties had previously entered into a memorandum of understanding for the property transfer in June, and the latest announcement confirms they have finalized their agreement. TWN is set to acquire the casino’s operations along with associated real property interests at Hastings Racecourse & Casino.
Known as the People of the Inlet, the Tsleil-Waututh Nation is a First Nation band government comprising several Coast Salish communities across British Columbia, Oregon, and Washington.
Located in East Vancouver, Hastings Racecourse & Casino hosts its live racing activities from spring through fall, alongside simulcast horse racing from around the globe. The casino, open year-round, boasts 400 slot machines, including classic and modern video slots with progressive jackpots, as well as games like blackjack, roulette, and craps, plus a poker room that regularly hosts tournaments. It also features a small sports lounge named Eclipse for sports betting.
“This transaction marks an important milestone towards economic independence for our Nation in our ancestral territory, benefiting our community and future generations,” remarked Chief Justin George of səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation). “I extend my gratitude to both current and former səlilwətaɬ leadership, alongside our Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and Economic Development members for making this opportunity possible.”
Approval from City of Vancouver Required
The completion of this acquisition is contingent upon certain closing conditions and gaining regulatory approvals from various authorities, including the City of Vancouver, which owns the land at Hastings Park.
“It has been a privilege to manage Hastings Racecourse & Casino for over two decades, and we acknowledge the significance of this agreement for TWN’s economic empowerment,” stated Matt Anfinson, CEO of Great Canadian Entertainment. “We are committed to successfully closing this deal and supporting the Tsleil-Waututh Nation in their future endeavors.”
Great Canadian Entertainment has been progressively divesting its holdings in B.C. casinos, with multiple sales to various First Nations in the province.
