The sale of the NBA Dallas Mavericks by Mark Cuban could be a game-changer for enticing commercial casinos to Texas, according to David Cordish, head of The Cordish Companies.
Cordish’s company runs casinos in Maryland and Pennsylvania, and is also moving into Louisiana’s gaming market.
The company aims to open a third casino in Pennsylvania and is adamant that Texas needs to diversify its entertainment and hospitality segments to attract out-of-state visitors.
The company owns and operates entertainment and hospitality districts throughout the country, including the Texas Live! destination in Arlington and Bayou Place in Houston.
Cordish Supports Cuban’s Sale
Meanwhile, Mark Cuban has expressed interest in partnering with Las Vegas Sands for an integrated resort in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, depending on Texas’s legislative action on casino gaming.
The sale of the Mavericks could influence Texas lawmakers’ stance on casino gambling and the chances of legalization in the coming years. As the state remains divided, it’s uncertain which direction the Lone Star State will go in.
