The now-deceased mass shooter was identified by ABC News as Anthony Polito, 67, a former educator. Tough questions are now being asked about how such a tragic event came to pass, and many are offering condolences to the affected families.

Speculation and Shock Reigns

Initially, the gunman went to the fourth floor of the campus’ Frank and Estella Beam Hall. The building houses the UNLV Lee Business School, where he once worked. The event, while tragic, has raised a lot of questions about campus safety.

As the shooting unfolded, panicked students rushed for cover and hid in campus buildings. The entire situation has left many in shock and disbelief over what has occurred in their hallowed institution, prompting a nationwide outpouring of support.

Following the shooting, UNLV was shuttered for the week, with authorities acting to secure and protect the wellbeing of staff and students at a time of great need.

Indeed, the devastating repercussions weren’t lost on the public, with many drawing comparisons to a similar tragic event some years ago in Las Vegas. It has, understandably, struck a chord with many.
