FanDuel, the King of Mobile Betting Setting up Shop in Indiana

FanDuelThe growth of FanDuel continues as the sportsbook released their mobile offering in the state of Indiana on Tuesday.

Once known as one of the two fantasy sports kings, they have made massive inroads into legalized sports betting ever since New Jersey started accepting bets in June 2018.

With new business partners and technology companies in tow, the company has taken over the mobile sports betting landscape in New Jersey. They have since branched out to both Pennsylvania and West Virginia in recent months. And FanDuel is already the leading mobile sportsbook in Pennsylvania.

Now they are set to become the third mobile option in Indiana after the Hoosier state launched mobile betting just before the start of the NFL season.

Just last week, FanDuel’s CEO Matt King was at the Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas discussing some of the reasons for their rapid and massive success. He talked about creating a seamless experience with their sports app where the same app can be used in every state where they operate. That customer friends approach may seem obvious, but the technology makes it harder said than done and therefore several of the company’s competitiors chose a different approach.

For King and FanDuel however, saying, “That was an easy conversation internally. It was a lot harder technically, but if you think about it, you probably have 50 apps on your phone. Name me one that doesn’t work outside of the state of Nevada. It just doesn’t happen.”

King continued by saying, “I think it’s evidence of our commitment to putting users first to say we are in a regulated business, we embrace that. There’s a complexity that comes with that, but that complexity should be our burden and not for some who use it. So, we look to make it as positive an experience for the users as possible because that’s the way you’re going to maximize the market.”

In making the announcement, the Indiana Gaming Commission posted the following announcement on their website:

“FanDuel already has a presence in the Hoosier State as it opened two retail sportsbooks last month. According to the IGC’s order, the mobile application will fall under the license awarded to the Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City near the Michigan state line. The company also runs a retail establishment at the Belterra Casino Resort in southern part of the state, roughly midway between Louisville, Ky., and Cincinnati. Both casinos are owned and operated by Boyd Gaming.”

Sports betting has been live for one month in Indiana and thus far $35.2 million in bets have been placed with $8.6 million in revenues for the house. Mobile betting began October 3rd. FanDuels’ top competitor, DraftKings was one of the first as was BetRivers.

There is expected to be several more options coming online in Indiana in the coming weeks and months as sports betting has really taken off in the Midwest.
