Atlantic City is experiencing a revival, with July marking the third successive month of year-over-year growth in in-person gross gaming revenue (GGR). This positive trend stands out against challenges faced by other major gaming destinations, like Las Vegas.

On Friday, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement reported that brick-and-mortar casino wins at the nine Atlantic City establishments rose by 4.3% compared to July 2024. Revenue from table games surged by 10% to $71.3 million, while slot revenue increased nearly 3% to $212.8 million.

In total, the gross gaming revenue of $284.1 million across the nine venues reflected an improvement of $11.8 million over July 2024.

“Atlantic City’s strong summer season continued through July,” stated James Plousis, chair of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission, in an interview with Casino.org. “Over the last four years, the casino hotels in Atlantic City have invested over $1.1 billion in enhancing their facilities to deliver a world-class experience for visitors. These investments have been crucial in transforming Atlantic City into a premier destination, offering a diverse array of gaming, leisure, dining, and entertainment options to cater to all preferences.”

As of July, retail casino revenue is up by 2.2%. The nine casinos have amassed over $1.66 billion in winnings, which they value higher than online slots and table game wins, as in-person visitors contribute to spending on food, beverages, accommodations, and entertainment. Moreover, in-person gaming does not involve third-party online operators.

The Atlantic City Revival

In addition to securing three consecutive months of increases in retail GGR, July witnessed in-person casino revenue overtaking iGaming. This occurred despite iGaming revenues reaching a record high of $247.3 million, marking a 27% increase compared to the previous year.

The total gaming revenue, including sports betting wins of $74.7 million, amounted to $606.2 million. New Jersey’s July GGR figure rose 11% compared to last year and represents only the second instance in the state’s history where monthly GGR surpassed $600 million.

“Atlantic City’s year-to-date casino winnings have risen, achieving the highest results for this period since 2013. By July, New Jersey’s cumulative total gaming revenue approached $4 billion, reaching this milestone faster than in any previous year,” Plousis elaborated.

Through July, the combined gaming revenue from the nine Atlantic City casinos, iGaming platforms, and retail/mobile sportsbooks reached $3,923,859,532. This represents an increase of 8.8%, equating to $317.3 million more compared to 2024.

Citywide GGR Advancements

A standout aspect of the July GGR data is that the in-person gains were widespread and not limited to market-leading establishments such as Borgata, Hard Rock, and Ocean.

Bally’s, previously struggling, recorded a rare 6% increase in casino wins, totaling $14.1 million. Similarly, Harrah’s noted a gain of 6%, reaching $20.4 million, while Resorts saw an 8.5% year-over-year GGR increase to $16.8 million.

Borgata retained its leading position with $79.9 million in brick-and-mortar revenue, marking a 5% increase. Hard Rock came in second with $55.1 million, showing a marginal increase of less than 1%. Ocean secured third place with $43.1 million, experiencing an 18% jump fueled by strong performances in table games.

Only two casinos within Atlantic City reported declines in in-person GGR, with Caesars experiencing a 6% drop to $18.8 million and Tropicana seeing a 1% decrease to $22.9 million.
